About the Murphysboro Apple Festival
The Murphysboro Apple Festival is a popular community tradition celebrated each year over the second weekend after Labor Day. It is one of the oldest and largest street festivals in Illinois. The Apple Festival was first organized in 1952 by the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce to promote local businesses. Today it has grown into a widely celebrated four-day event, annually attended by more than 40,000 people in Downtown Murphysboro and the surrounding areas.
The Murphysboro Apple Festival features many attractions, including parades, a 5K fun run/walk, apple pie contests, pageants, live music, apple treats, tasty food, carnival rides, games, art & craft vendors, and lots of farm-fresh apples. In 2025, the Murphysboro Apple Festival will begin on Wednesday, September 10 and conclude on Saturday, September 13.
