About the Onion Festival
The Texas Onion Fest is a family-friendly event, held each year at the historic Downtown Weslaco.
The festival celebrates the famous Texas 1015 Onion which was developed in Weslaco. This 1015 sweet onion is the state vegetable of Texas, and the 1015 in its name comes from the suggested planting date, October 15.
The Texas Onion Festival features many attractions, including live entertainment, onion eating contests, food booths, craft vendors, kiddie rides, and lots of fun. In 2025, the Texas Onion Fest will be held on Saturday, March 22.
